Task

The goal of this personal project was to make a short audiovisual story which illustrates the feeling of many citizens about the harsh lockdown in Melbourne (Australia) during COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the seriousness of the topic the project should contain a bit of humor.

Ideas and solutions

I shot the video in April 2020 during lockdown in Melbourne (Australia). Road banners with local government's recommendations were chosen as the visual source of storytelling. The project is also heavily based on the sound component. The goal was to give a "voice" to these banners transforming the tone of the message from "kindly asking you" to "you must". Text-to-speech generator was used as the main voice of these road banners in order to highlight the feeling of something automated and robotic in these messages and how they are repeating on a daily basis. Overall, glitch style that was used in both visuals and sound can refer to it as well. The goal of music and sound design was to carry the disturbing feeling and chaotic atmosphere during those days.
