Task
DinoSquad is a free mobile game where you can play as a dinosaur with guns fighting other players. The idea of the game originated from our internal gamejam three years ago. In April 2020 the game was released but we are still expanding on it. Over 5 millions of players have played the game to this date. The game constantly grows and changes. That’s why the UI team had a goal to make the UI/UX not only clear and convenient, but also flexible enough for introduction of the new features.
Ideas and solutions
Our company decision making process is always data-driven. That’s why we as a team were governed by the same principles when developing our new title. The game has an abundance of midcore mechanics which need to be conveyed to the players in a clear way. In order to do that we chose a very simple minimalistic style for our game UI. We also architectured it in a way to avoid unnecessary cognitive load and help easing the interactions with all core mechanics. In addition to that we introduced analytics UI events in the app and conducted a lot of research of the gathered data until we were satisfied with the final result. It is hard to dissect specific metrics of the game and determine which specific features influenced them the most but if we might mention a few here they are. Most of the players (91%) are completing the ingame tutorial. Most of the players (86%) are completing the first metagame scenario which ends with the dino purchase. We consider these metrics as highly competitive and directly influenced by the simplicity of the UI flow. More examples and solutions are shown in the illustrations supplementing the project. If you want to try the project and UI for yourself you can download our game via Google Play and AppStore.
